Hi Folks -- I'm Back! :)~
It's been a while since I actually wrote anything for this blog, and there's a number of reasons for my absence. When I started Godwhacker back in 2006, I did so with the intention of giving myself a place to write and put my 'sometimes unusual' opinions out there for all to see. Since then, I've gained numerous other venues to voice my opinions, so the Godwhacker blog became somewhat superfluous.
But more than that, I've been doing a lot of reflection and soul-searching. I love my politics and philosophy, and I'm very empathetic to the state of our nation and our world. When I started working on the Ron Paul campaign in the spring of 2007, I didn't really expect that the congressman had a shot at winning the election. That would have been overly optimistic. I was working for matters of principle. But neither did I think that, little more than a year latter, the U.S. would be vying with China and Russia for the country with the most nationalized industries.
George W. Bush, as of last summer, was easily the holder of the title 'Worst President in Modern History'. But in his last months of office, Bush and his neoconservative cronies teamed with some of the worst elements of the Democrat Party to rape and pillage the people of our nation in a manner not seen in our lifetimes.
I'm a news junkie. I devote an inordinate amount of time keeping track of political events. During the hight of 'bailout fever,' I could barely tell which multi-hundred-billion dollar package they were talking about. Indeed, there were so many I imagine that many people thought they were talking about the same ones over and over, when in fact there were numerous bailouts going on at the same time.
There was a lot of noise made over the first big 700 billion dollar package, the so-called Troubled Assets Relief Program (T.A.R.P.), but since then the total in loans, purchase, and government guarantees has soared into the stratosphere, now coming in at $7.36 trillion dollars, nearly doubling our national debt in 3 months. So much for fiscal conservatism.
Therein lies the nature of my soul-searching. I am a fervent believer in freedom, and no matter how good the intentions might be, controlled economies inevitably spiral into dictatorships. So what does it mean to be an advocate for peace and freedom in a country that no longer has any viable political faction that stands for either?
I don't know the answer to that question, but I am given some guidance by Confucius when he said, "The man who moves a mountain begins by carrying away small stones." Step back man, looks like there is a lot of lifting to do.

Well maybe you will find some answers in New Hampshire. Wish we could afford to join you there.
At any rate, it'll be good to see thoughts posted here again.
Welcome back, GW!
Thanks guys. I was seriously thinking of turning this into a cooking blog, but alas my recipes will remain closely guarded secrets!
